Ebrahim Raisi, born on December 14, 1960, commonly known as Raisi, is a hardline cleric who rose to prominence in Iran's political landscape. Born into a devout religious family in Mashhad, Raisi joined the fervent Islamic Revolution sweeping the country in the 1970s.
Ascent to Presidency
Closely aligned with the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Raisi ascended to the presidency in June 2021. He became Iran's eighth President and is currently serving his first term. As the second-highest authority in the Iranian government, after the Supreme Leader, Raisi holds significant influence in the country's political and religious affairs.
